About Beartooth Engineering
Eric Butts, P.E.
Owner/Civil Engineer
Eric is a Montana native and an engineering graduate of Montana Tech. He began his career in 1995 working as a mining engineer in the mountainous regions of northern Nevada where he also became passionate about backcountry skiing. He returned to his home state in 2000 and worked at the Stillwater Mine while living in Red Lodge for the first time.
After deciding he wanted to spend more of his working hours outdoors, Eric took a position at TD&H Engineering in Bozeman as a surveyor. He became licensed as a Professional Engineer shortly thereafter while working on land development and municipal projects. His fondness for skiing then led him to be the staff engineer for Moonlight Basin in 2007 where he worked on the planning, development, and operations of the resort and its successors. After a long tenure in Big Sky, he started Beartooth Engineering in 2018.
Eric is currently a member of the Moonlight Basin Design Review Board and past member of the Moonlight Basin Community Association. He also belongs to the American Society of Civil Engineers. He again lives in Red Lodge and enjoys all types of outdoor adventures with his three children. He treasures the community and surrounding region, and takes pride in supporting local causes.
